Wanstead Park, E11

Abundance. Seasonality. Immersion.

The owner of this garden loves plants but the garden, as it was, lacked structure and was a struggle to maintain. The brief for the new design was to create a space that felt exuberant but soft, with plants spilling over the edge of borders, self-seeders encouraged to do their own thing and the odd ‘weed’ allowed to have its moment too. We reduced the lawn to a minimum - just enough space for yoga practice - and created generous hoggin paths with a warm honey tone.

Leading out from the house a large, raised larch deck looks out over the rest of the garden, providing a shady respite from the heat of the day in summer, and an above-ground pool is hidden behind bespoke larch cladding and surrounded by planting.
