Quirky. Relaxed. Textural.
The brief for this garden was to create a relaxed family garden designed to encourage wildlife and support biodiversity - in particular the family were keen to encourage and support the local newt population with the addition of a pond and sure enough, within months of its creation, the pond became home to protected Great Crested Newts.

Woodlands Avenue, E11, Wildlife Garden
We extended the existing patio to create a new seating area using a combination of setts and cobbles to bring together both the existing patio and the pebbles on the floor of the pond. The wonderfully named Mind-Your-Own-Business will creep through the intentionally sandy grout over time and Erigeron will self seed in all the cracks, while ferns enjoy a shady spot beneath the swing seat. Finally clematis climb up the framework on either side of the seat.
An informal planted stepping stone path winds between the borders and the pond, past the resident chickens to the far end of the garden where a shady, vine-covered seating area was given the finishing touches by adding reclaimed London stock raised beds and planted up with plants that would thrive in the dappled shade below. There’s even space for a trampoline and a raised deck seating area which we built around an existing yew tree.
“Amelia created a beautiful garden for us… She was great to work with, responsive, adaptive and had great ideas to help get to the garden we wanted. She really cares for plants and good planting and worked with understanding the type of gardeners we were to make a garden we could maintain. I recommend her very highly.”
